Kristen Dalton was crown Miss USA on April 19, 2009. Dalton held the title Miss North Carolina before the event. Earlier in the evening, Cynthia Pate won Miss Congeniality and Jessi Pierson won Miss Photogenic awards.
Women from all 50 states (and Washington DC) competed for the title and the opportunity to ultimately go to the Miss Universe Pageant.
