Dominic Sena directs Whiteout, a 2009 adaptation of Greg Rucka's graphic novel of the same name. The film stars Kate Beckinsale as a U.S. Marshall investigating the first murder in Antarctica with only one day before the continent is plunged into 24 weeks of winter darkness.
Plot Synopsis
Carrie Stetko, played by Kate Beckinsale, is a U.S. Marshall with only three days left on a two-year assignment at Antarctica's South Pole research base. When a body is found encased in ice, however, Carrie is forced into the continent's first-ever murder investigation. Reviews
"Whiteout’s biggest weakness, besides the often-painful dialogue, is that for a suspense thriller there isn’t much suspense. Several scenes come close, but after multiple occasions of landing in precarious, potentially frightening situations, the characters find solutions quickly and with little fanfare."—Steven Lindsey, Dallas Voicehttp://www.dallasvoice.com/artman/publish/article_11806.php
"Whiteout isn't only an obvious, by-the-numbers thriller, its screenplay assumes we have the brains of discarded soda cans. Marshal Carrie constantly spoon-feeds us information as if we've just returned to our theater seats after a prolonged visit to the restroom."—Dann Gire, Chicago Daily-Herald
