White Zinfandel

    • Third most popular wine in the United States
    • Made with Zinfandel grapes
    • Low alcohol content
    • Is not aged like other wines
    • Known as a California wine
    • First Commercial Producer: Sutter Home
    • Original Names: Cabernet Blanc, White Cabernet
    • White Zinfandel accounts for 10% of all U.S. wine purchases
  • A rose wine made from the red Zinfandel grape, White Zinfandel goes through the "bleeding" process, by which juice from the red grape is released prior to fermentation. This leaves the the wine with its light texture and pink color.
  • White Zinfandel Characteristics

White Zinfandel has a relatively low alcohol content, which tightens the ratio of alcohol to sugar. The wine is much sweeter than most wines and even other rose wines as a result.

A California native wine, several vineyards in the Central Valley produce grapes almost exclusively for production into White Zinfandel. Red Zinfandels remain popular throughout the United States, and those grown in warm climates such as California tend to be sweet and spicy.
