White Sox Playoffs

    The White Sox were the 2005 World Series Champions. They defeated the Houston Astros in four straight games. It was the first championship for the franchise since 1917.

    In 2008, the White Sox made the playoffs by defeating the Minnesota Twins in a one game playoff on September 30, 2008.

    The White Sox will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round of the 2008 American league Division series.

    The White Sox lost to the Rays in four games, losing games one and two in Tampa, winning game three at home but then losing game four. The Rays went on to face the Boston Red Sox in the 2008 ALCS.MLB.com: Another first, another Rays celebration

    White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen led the team to the post season with an impressive offensive line-up. The team fielded veterans such as Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko, Orlando Cabrera and Jim Thome.

    At the 2008, trade deadline the team also picked up slugger Ken Griffey Jr..

    But the offensive star for the team was Most valuable player candidate Carlos Quentin.

    The pitching staff was led by Mark Buehrle and included pitchers John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Clayton Richard and Javier Vazquez.

    The bullpen included veterans such as Octavio Dotel, Mike MacDougal and Scott Linebrink. The pen was anchored by star closer Bobby Jenks.
