The White House egg roll is an annual event that takes place on the Monday after Easter at the south lawn of the White House.
In 2009 President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hosted their first White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 13th on the White House's South Lawn. R&B singer Fergie sang the National Anthem before the event.Official Site: The White House: EasterEggRoll
Easter Egg Roll History
- Rumored that Dolley Madison first suggested the idea
- In 1872, the egg roll was conducted on the grounds of the Capital, not the White House
- After the 1876 egg roll, Congress passed the Turf Protection Law, which disallows the Capital grounds to be used as a playground
- First White House Easter Egg Roll took place on 1878
- Rutherford B. Hayes was in office during the inaugural Easter Egg Roll
