White Fang is the is the story of a wild, wolf-dog hybrid during the Klondike Gold Rush. It is the companion novel to Call of the Wild.
Plot Synopsis
The title character in White Fang is a wolf-dog, cub of Kiche. The two find themselves adopted by Native American Grey Beaver after he recognized her as his brother's former dog. White Fang is not able to adapt to life with the normal dogs back at the camp because they see him as a Wolf. Because of this he grows wild and relatively uncivilized, similar to the way wolves in the wild act. White Fang is sold to a dog fighter and injured during a match with a bulldog. Weedon Scott, a gold hunter, finds him injured and and adopts him. Scott struggles with White Fangs savageness and patiently trains him to be a civil and obedient pet.
Critical Reception
White Fang is generally considered a classic piece of literature and a common assigned reading for intermediate school children.
