Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel

Categories: Travel | Hotels
  • The Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel is a seventy three story hotel that is located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The hotel was designed by developer John Portman in 1976 and became a popular landmark in Atlanta for being the "second tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere".

The hotel structure is a cylinder shape with reflective glass that is all around it, reflecting much of the Atlanta skyline. At the top of the hotel, there is a revolving restaurant called the Sun Dial Restaurant Bar, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

On Friday evening, March 14, 2008, a tornado ripped through Atlanta, causing the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel to shift. About one hundred and seventy windows in the hotel shattered which will be covered with plywood until the glass can be replaced. No injuries were reported at the hotel.
