University History
The college was originally founded in 1906 as the Western Kentucky State Normal School. In 1909, the school purchased Pleasant J. Potter College, then moved to that campus in 1911. Originally only offering teaching certificates, the school earned full university status in 1930, as its name changed to Western Kentucky University. It has continued to grow in the decades since, merging with the Bowling Green College of Commerce in 1963 and expanding its campus in 1988.Notable Alumni
