West Virginia University (WVU) is the flagship land-grant, doctoral degree-granting research university in the state of West Virginia. Its main campus is located in Morgantown. The university also has two divisional campuses, Potomac State College of WVU and WVU Institute of Technology, and Health Science Center divisions in Charleston and Martinsburg.

The school was originally founded in 1867 as the Agricultural College of West Virginia. It assumed its present name the following year. The university saw increased growth in the 1960s, adding a number of buildings and degree programs.The university's main Morgantown location includes three campuses, Downtown, Evansdale, and the Health Sciences campus. The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system shuttles students between these campuses.
