West Texas A&M University is a public, state university that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. Located in the Texas panhandle, the school started as one of Texas' state-funded teacher's colleges. After a devastating fire in 1914 destroyed the academic and classroom building, major fund-raising allowed the university to grow and prosper. It joined the Texas A&M college system in 1990. The school's sports teams are part of the Lone Star Conference. Former football player Ryan Leaf is a coach at the school.
