History and Origins
The West Highland White Terrier can be traced back to Scotland where they were bred for over 100 years in order to achieve the desired traits. The Terrier's white coat made them easy to differentiate from game on hunting trips in Scotland. This helped hunters keep from accidentally shooting at the dogs instead of what they were hunting.Westiclubamerica.com: Brief History of the Westie Westies are bred for their hunting skills, particularly in stalking smaller animals like mice and squirrels.American Kennel Club: West Highland White Terrier History
