• Werner Herzog is a German filmmaker, screenwriter, actor and one of the founders of New German Cinema.Criterion: New German Cinema In 2005, he became more well known to the American public by directing the project Grizzly Man. The documentary comprised of footage shot by ill-fated "Grizzly Bear expert" Timothy Treadwell just before his death in a bear attack.

    In 2006, actor Joaquin Phoenix lost control of his car in Los Angeles and crashed along the side of the road. Herzog saw the wreck and pulled Phoenix from the carnage.
