Werner Faymann

  • Werner Faymann is the Federal Chancellor of Austria. He was sworn in on December 2, 2008, by Federal President Heinz Fischer.
  • Biography

    Werner Faymann was born May 4, 1960, in Vienna, Austria. Faymann completed his military service in 1981. He studied law at the University of Vienna. He worked at the Zentralsparkasse Bank as a consultant from 1985 through 1988. He was the chairman of the Socialist Youth of Vienna from 1985 through 1994.

    He has been married twice and has two daughters, the oldest with his first wife and the youngest with his present wife, Martina Ludwig-Faymann.

    Other political positions that he held before becoming the Chancellor of Austria include the Federal Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology; the Charmain of the Social Democratic Party of Austria and a member of the Viennese State Parliament. Shortly after taking over the leadership role of his party, he was asked to lead his party in a snap election on September 28, 2008.

    As city councilor, Faymann was able to develop cost efficiency in housing, including comparable low rent. His political interests and areas of emphasis include:
