Webby Awards

Presented annually by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences since 1996, the Webby Awards honor excellence on the internet including websites, online film and video, interactive advertising and mobile content.

The members of the academy include people from various areas of entertainment both online and offline. These members include Beck and David Bowier who are musicians, Inventor Vint Cerf, political columnist Arianna Huffington, Rob Glaser who is the CEO of Real Networks, creator of The Simpsons Matt Groening, the Founder and Chairman of R/GA Robert Greenberg, Chairman and Founder of Virgin Atlantic Richard Branson and Co-Founder of The Weinstein Company Harvey Weinsten. Other members include writers and editors from The New York Times, Wired, Details, Fast Company, Elle, The Los Angeles Times, Vibe and WallPaper.http://www.webbyawards.com/about/

There are two categories that awards are given for,. There are two awards given in each category. The categories include The Webby Award and the People's Choice Award and there is four types within each category which include Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video and Mobile Web. The winners for the Webby Award are chosen by the members. The best in each category for the People's Choice Award is chosen by the online community.http://www.webbyawards.com/about/

The 14th annual Webby Awards are scheduled for June 14, 2010 in New York City.

Webbys are awarded in more than 70 categories organized by type of entry—website, interactive advertising, online video and mobile content. In each category, two awards are given. The first is the actual Webby Award, the recipient of which is chosen by a panel of judges. The second is the People's Voice Award, chosen by visitors to the Webby Awards website.

The Webbys are awarded at a gala held annually in New York City. Winners' acceptance speeches are famously limited to five words. Past speeches have included:

• Cute Overload: "not bad for posting kittens"
• TripAdvisor: "because some hotels really suck"
• David Bowie: "I only get five words? Shit, that was five. Four more there. That's three. Two."
