We Own The Night

We Own the Night is crime thriller set in late 1980s in New York City. It is the story of two brothers, one a cop and the other a night club manager, who must choose where their allegiances lie when their two worlds clash.

Box Office Draw

The film was released on October 12, 2007, typically a dry box office period between the summer and the holidays. It earned just under $11 million in its opening weekend and grossed $28.5 million in its domestic theatrical release. Worldwide, the film made $51 million and is considered a box office success based on its relatively low budget and distribution costs. On DVD, We Own The Night has earned $20 million in sales.

Critical Reception

The film opened to mixed reviews, many critics claiming that it has a contrived plot with two many similarities to Scorsese' The Departed, without as many thrills. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw thought the film was cumbersome, but recommends it just for the strength of its car chase. We Own The Night has a 54% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
