Potential Health Benefits
According to an ongoing study conducted by Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center, lycopene, which is found in the deep-red watermelon varieties, may slow down aging and prevent prostate cancer.
Watermelons are not only an outstanding source of Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C, they are also a good source of Vitamin A, as the decent amount of Vitamin A contained in watermelon is largely in the form of Beta Carotene. These essential nutrients, alongside Lycopene, are powerful antioxidants that combat free radicals and reduce inflammation in the body. The World's Healthiest Foods: [1]
