  • Dr. Manhattan is a central fictional character from Watchmen, a comic book series. Also known as Jon Osterman, he appears in the Warner Bros. film version. A watchmaker's son, he pursued an education in atom physics encouraged by his father. He became deeply involved in research and became trapped inside an "intrinsic field separator", transforming into a blue-skinned superhero.
  • Background

Jon Osterman started off as a curious teenager that pursued a Ph.D. from Princeton University in atom physics. While working on his research, he began a relationship with his colleague, Janey Slater. Their relationship started before he was transformed into the blue superhuman known as Dr. Manhattan and continued for years until he began an affair with a young Laurie Juspeczyk.

The Comedian and Dr. Manhattan were both contracted by the US government for specific missions. They collaborated together during the Vietnam War for three months and contributed to the ultimate victory. Dr. Manhattan has general positive relationships with the main Watchmen, except for some tension with Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias).

  • Physical Characteristics

Dr. Manhattan was once a human but was transformed in 1959 during a research accident that separated him into millions of atoms. He restructured himself and became superhuman with blue-hued skin that still retained human capabilities, such as some emotions. Among his various powers, he is able to change his physical appearance, most often growing to gigantic proportions.
