Warner Independent Ceases Operations
In May 2008, Warner Bros., a division of media conglomerate Time Warner, announced that Warner Independent Pictures would cease operations in the fall. Warner Bros. president Alan Horn reported to the Los Angeles Times that this did not reflect a lack of interest in the production and distribution of small-budget, "specialty" pictures, but was a reflection of the changing market. He was quoted as saying, "If there is a specialty movie that interests us or we find something we want to buy, we'll still do it. But marketing is marketing is marketing. I don't think you need a specialty label to market a specialty picture. The tools just aren't that different." [1]
