  • Conquest Campaign

    The Lord of the Rings: Conquest features two campaigns in its single-player mode. One focuses on the Armies of the West and follows the major events of the Lord of the Rings films. During this campaign, players get the chance to control many of the major protagonists from The Lord of the Rings, including Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas. The other campaign focuses on the armies of Mordor in a hypothetical scenario in which The One Ring was never destroyed and Sauron never defeated. In this campaign, players can embody the evil wizard Saruman and even Sauron himself. The campaign mode can be played co-operatively with another person on a split screen and takes approximately ten hours to complete.GameSpot: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Impressions (July 15, 2008)

  • Objective 1: Rally with Gimli at Balin's Tomb

    1. Choose the Scout at the start of this level.
    2. Achievement: The availability of two heroes in this level, plus the relatively small number of objectives, makes it an easy to traverse without dying. Keep this in mind if you are trying to earn "Mithril Armor."
    3. Achievement: Directly in front of you, through the first hallway, there's a ramp leading down to a large room. This is a good place to earn "Knife in the Dark." Cloak by pressing LB, run behind an enemy and press RB to backstab it. Repeat this ten times to get the achievement. If you run out of cloaking power, retreat to the starting point and wait until it recharges.
    4. If you do this, you should clear a sufficient path to the next objective. Run past any remaining enemies and meet with Gimli.

  • Objective 2: Defend Balin's Tomb

    1. Once the enemies break down the doors, you can become Gimli. Do it -- his controls are similar to that of a Warrior.
    2. Don't be intimidated by the King Trolls. They are easily killed by running behind them, pressing RB to climb up their backs, and pressing the appropriate button when prompted.
    3. With the two trolls defeated, the remaining enemies pose little danger. Attack them with combinations of X and Y and let your allies do the rest until the time runs out.

  • Objective 3: Lock the Troll Prison

    1. Find the stairs, on the right side when facing the back of the room. Head up, and start attacking the enemies in your way.
    2. There are a substantial number of mages and other allies who will help clear the path. Let them do most of the work as you head down the stairway in the next room.
    3. You'll cross a narrow bridge guarded by two King Trolls. They leave just enough room to get around them and climb up their backs. Do this quickly, before they can hurt your allies.
    4. Pull the switch at the end of the pathway.

  • Objective 4: Capture the Bridge

    1. Turn right and head up the next staircase. There's one more King Troll here, and the chaos caused by all your allies makes it difficult to climb on top of him. Wait for the on-screen prompt to press RB, then press the correct button when prompted again.
    2. Continue up the stairs. Use Gimli's powerful attacks to fight the enemies at the top. Remember, you can perform special attacks by holding RB and pressing X, Y or B.
    3. Get to the capture point. When faced with a group of enemies, use the Y special attack to clear them away. Execute regular combinations, starting with X and moving to more powerful attacks, to defeat the stragglers.Keep it up until the point is captured.

  • Objective 5: Rally with Gandalf

    1. Let your allies lead the way against the group of enemies ahead. Once battle ensues, break through with a combination of regular attacks. This is a short and easy battle.
    2. Head up the stairs and into the room where Gandalf is waiting.

  • Objective 6: Kill the Balrog

    1. You're able to play as Gandalf here. Defeating the Balrog as this character will earn you the "You Shall Not Pass!" Achievement, but if you die, you'll lose your chance at it, so be careful.
    2. Allow your allies to storm the room ahead of you. There are quite a few low-level Orcs lurking around, and it's best for them to be occupied while you concentrate on the Balrog.
    3. WARNING: Keep your distance. Use firewalls and lightning attacks to drain Balrog's energy. If you do get caught up in one of his powerful attacks, get up and run away, then press LB to heal yourself.
    4. Continue to attack the Balrog with long-range attacks until it is defeated, earning you the "Mines of Moria" Achievement for completing the level.
