Conquest Campaign
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest features two campaigns in its single-player mode. One focuses on the Armies of the West and follows the major events of the Lord of the Rings films. During this campaign, players get the chance to control many of the major protagonists from The Lord of the Rings, including Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas. The other campaign focuses on the armies of Mordor in a hypothetical scenario in which The One Ring was never destroyed and Sauron never defeated. In this campaign, players can embody the evil wizard Saruman and even Sauron himself. The campaign mode can be played co-operatively with another person on a split screen and takes approximately ten hours to complete.GameSpot: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Impressions (July 15, 2008) -

Objective 1: Defend the Main Gate
- Minis Tirith is under siege, and your first objective is to stop the initial charge of Orcs. Select the Mage for this mission.
- Achievement: Most of this level will be played as the Mage, so it will be a good opportunity to gain two Achievements: "House of Healing," for healing 30 allies, and "Flame of Anor," for killing 100 enemies with the firewall. Both must be completed without dying.
- At the start of the level, stand ready at the gate with RT charged, but keep your distance so as not to get hit when the Orcs break through.
- When the gate breaks open, look on the left of the battering ram for some Orcs running by. Fire your charged lightning into that pile.
- Next, set your sites on the crowd of Orcs charging the gate. Throw a firewall in their direction, and many of them will be killed.
- Approach the gate. As the enemy starts to pour in, press Y to launch a Shockwave, knocking them all off their feet.
- Now, retreat just a little deeper into the courtyard, so you're near the statue. Start hitting the incoming enemies with lighting.
- The enemies to watch out for here are the Orc Warriors -- armored enemies carrying swords. One of their sword combos can completely drain your energy, so keep your distance and concentrate fire on them when they draw near.
- Keep an eye on the lower right side of the screen. When the far right circle is outlined in orange, you can launch another firewall. If you're not directly threatened by a nearby Orc Warrior, toss the firewall into the nearest crowd.
- "When the far left circle is outlined in green, you can heal. Try to give health to your allies with the green health icons above their heads, but only if they are nearby -- venturing into a serious fight can be deadly.
- Save your Shockwaves for when you don't have a firewall available and when you're surrounded by enemies.
- After you're defeated the first wave of enemies, another group will come, backed by two Trolls. Don't stand anywhere near them, as one punch will kill you.
- Hit the trolls with lightning and firewalls. Use Shockwaves or more lightning to keep any other enemies at bay.
- Continue to hold off the remaining enemies until the timer at the top of the screen runs out.

Objective 2: Burn the Orc Siege Towers
- Go with your allies through the city. Heal the first group that you meet, then start heading up the stairs to where the Orcs are boarding the city with siege towers.
- Let some of your allies lead the charge. At the first group of Orcs, launch a firewall, then follow up with lightning. Don't forget to heal your allies if they have green health icons above their heads.
- Continue along the path and use the same strategy on the next group of enemies.
- When you reach the siege towers, launch a firewall at the nearby Orcs. Then use lightning and a shockwave to clear the rest out.
- You must hit each siege tower with two firewalls. After launching the first, fend off the nearby orcs with lightning, and use a shockwave if the area gets too crowded. Then, take down the first tower with one more firewall.
- Before continuing on, this is a good spot to make sure you have the achievements mentioned above. Use your firewalls at the seemingly endless supply of enemies to get "Flame of Anor," and keep healing your enemies to get House of Healing. Don't be afraid to retreat and recharge if things get too hairy.
- Once you have the achievements, head towards the second tower, but use the lower path on the right side to avoid most enemies.
- When you're near the tower, throw a firewall, but be careful, as fell beasts occasionally swoop by looking for an easy kill. On the bright side, you'll get the "Unfriendly Skies" Achievement if one of these monsters grabs you.
- Hit the tower with a second firewall to complete this objective.
-
-
Objective 4: Defend the 2nd Ring Gate
- The Orcs will approach from the same path you took to get here. The trick is to keep pushing them back down the hill, so they can't get anywhere near the courtyard.
- Launch your firewalls at crowds of the enemy, aiming them so they land in the middle of the path. The resulting blast radius will kill or hurt any Orc that tries to get through.
- HINT: Don't shoot the firewall when the Orc Mages have their shields raised, as it will prevent your weapon from reaching most of the enemy. Instead, get close to them and use a shockwave.
- The shockwave should also be used if a crowd approaches and there's no firewall available.
- Use lighting at all other times to fend off the Orcs, concentrating your fire on the deadly Orc Scouts and Warriors.
- Keep this up until the timer reaches zero.
-
Objective 6: Protect the Gates of the 3rd Ring
- Choose Gandalf when asked if you would like to play as a hero. You'll have to defend the area by the gate for roughly three minutes.
- Your strategy here will be similar to the one you used for the previous rings. Start by tossing a firewall at the approaching enemy, then follow up with lightning.
- As the enemy gets closer, approach them and use a shockwave, then retreat back to the gate again.
- Repeat this strategy until the first troll arrives.
- Concentrate your fire on the Troll, which is most vulnerable to lightning and direct hits from the firewall. If any other enemies get close, use the shockwave.
- Remember, you can heal yourself and your teammates by pressing LB.
- You'll have to defeat one more troll. After that, keeping the gate safe for the remaining time should be easy. You'll get the "Siege of Minas Tirith" Achievement for your troubles.
