Conquest Campaign
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest features two campaigns in its single-player mode. One focuses on the Armies of the West and follows the major events of the Lord of the Rings films. During this campaign, players get the chance to control many of the major protagonists from The Lord of the Rings, including Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas. The other campaign focuses on the armies of Mordor in a hypothetical scenario in which The One Ring was never destroyed and Sauron never defeated. In this campaign, players can embody the evil wizard Saruman and even Sauron himself. The campaign mode can be played co-operatively with another person on a split screen and takes approximately ten hours to complete.GameSpot: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Impressions (July 15, 2008)-
Objective 1: Rally to the East Bank

- The level begins at a fort that must be defended. Your allies are a cunning group, so it pays to keep them alive by selecting the Mage.
- The first objective is accomplished simply by running forward and to the left with your fellow soldiers.
Objective 2: Kill the Orc Assault Party
- Orc Grunts will begin to pour over the wall ahead. Throw a firewall at the area where they are coming from, then attack with X. Heal your comrades periodically by pressing LB.
- This battle is easy. After a few minutes, they will fall back.
- Retreat towards the area you came from. Stay far enough from the arrows that come over the walls.
- After this, a group of Orc Warriors will start to come over the walls. Use the same strategy of hitting them with firewalls and recharging with regular attacks. Help your comrades by healing with LB.
- Once the Orc Warriors are defeated, go back the way you came.
Objective 3: Await Further Orders
- This is easy enough. Hang back with your allies for a moment.
Objective 5: Capture Sanctuary
- There's a capture point across the way and around a corner. Move forward with the horse, and use left and right attacks to knock down the crowd of Orcs blocking your path.
- When you reach the point, get off the horse.
- Use a combination of firewalls (B) and lightning (RT) to attack distant enemies. When they get close, use a shockwave (Y) to knock them down. Heal yourself and your allies if you are hurt.
- Keep the capture point clear of Orcs to accomplish this objective.
Objective 7: Escort Frodo to Market Square
- Stay near Frodo at all times. He can cloak to avoid enemy attacks, but you can reach the end of the objective faster if you don't linger behind.
- Occasionally, you'll have to break up enemy attacks when Frodo gets surrounded. Use LB and Y to clear them out, and attack with LB and B on any warriors who are blocking.
- As soon as Frodo keeps moving, follow him. Don't worry about the remaining enemies. Eventually, you will reach Market Square.
Objective 8: Kill the Trolls
- Two trolls approach the square. They can be beaten with the same method used in the last level. Get behind them and press RB to jump on their backs, then press the appropriate button when prompted.
- Unlike the last mission, though, this backstab attack must be executed twice for each troll. The mission is completed once you've done this, earning the "Assault on Osgiliath" Achievement.
