  • Conquest Campaign

    The Lord of the Rings: Conquest features two campaigns in its single-player mode. One focuses on the Armies of the West and follows the major events of the Lord of the Rings films. During this campaign, players get the chance to control many of the major protagonists from The Lord of the Rings, including Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas. The other campaign focuses on the armies of Mordor in a hypothetical scenario in which The One Ring was never destroyed and Sauron never defeated. In this campaign, players can embody the evil wizard Saruman and even Sauron himself. The campaign mode can be played co-operatively with another person on a split screen and takes approximately ten hours to complete.GameSpot: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Impressions (July 15, 2008)

  • Objective 1: Defend the Deeping Wall

    1. The story picks up again in 3019 of the Third Age, when a massive siege on Helm's Deep is in the works. Choose the Warrior for your first objective.
    2. You'll spawn on the deeping wall. Run down the path to your comrades and start fighting the slow trickle of enemies climbing up the walls.
    3. HINT: Keep an eye on your buddies. When you see a confrontation, run to their aide and start attacking the darker looking characters. Fortunately, your blows won't hurt anyone on your side. Fend off these enemies until the timer on the top of the screen runs out.

  • Objective 2: Kill the Torchbearers

    1. The next wave is comprised of torchbearers. Hop over the deeping wall toward the yellow marks on your mini map. These marks represent the torchbearers, who must not reach the wall.
    2. The Warrior is faster than the enemies down here, so ignore them and focus on the torchbearers. Take each one out with a quick combo or special attack and then move on to the next one.
    3. Once the torchbearers are defeated, climb back up the wall by approaching a ladder and pressing RB. Follow the objective arrow and fall back to the keep.

  • Objective 3: Fall Back to the Keep

    1. You'll see a brief cutscene that shows the commotion outside. Just keep running until you get inside, then turn right and head down the stairs to the gate.

  • Objective 4: Defend the Main Gate

    1. Fend off the enemies here as you head outside. There's a small area on the outer stairway outlined in blue. You must defend this area for a short period of time. Use a combination of light attacks and the Whirlwind Sweep (LB and Y) to clear out nearby grunts.
    2. Achievement: If you defeat enough enemies in this area, and you haven't switched to a different character, you'll likely have killed 100 foes total, earning "Splintered Shields."
    3. Keep the outlined area secure until the time runs out.

  • Objective 5: Rally to Theoden

    1. Go back inside and follow the yellow marker to a long hallway.

  • Objective 6: Kill the Officers

    1. There are four enemy Officers marked by yellow arrows ahead. They use powerful combos, so approach them with caution. Try to isolate one at a time and break its block by holding LB and pressing B.
    2. You can deplete their health with combos, such as X, X, X, Y, Y, B, but be ready to block with LT when they go on the offensive. Defeat all four to complete the objective.

  • Objective 7: Retake the Deeping Wall

    1. Here, you'll get an option to play as a Hero. Hit left on the D-Pad to select "Yes," then press A to choose Aragorn. Alternatively, you can continue to play as the Warrior to try and get an achievement later in the level.
    2. Head outside, to the right and down the stairs, back to the wall.
    3. There are two areas to capture along this platform. You need to keep each one clear of enemies so the red "Capture" bar on the bottom of the screen depletes, then fills back up with blue.
    4. The first capture point is easy. Just swat away the occasional enemy as it climbs over the wall. Once you've captured it, jump down the break in the deeping wall and climb back up the staircase on the right side to the next point.
    5. The enemies appear in greater numbers here. Use special attacks, such as LB and Y together, to clear them out. Keep defending this area until the blue capture bar is full.

  • Objective 8: Defend the Breach

    1. The enemy will now make a final assault at the breach in the wall. Jump down and get ready to fend them off.
    2. The assault starts with just a couple of enemies, but you'll quickly be swarmed with them.
    3. 'Achievement: If you're well surrounded by enemies as the Warrior, it's a great opportunity to get "Blade that was Broken." Keep attacking with steady presses of X, and then use LB and Y together for the Whirlwind Sweep when your foes are all around you. Raise your combo counter to 30 to get the achievement.
    4. Use regular attacks to fill your special meter, then hold LT and press B to perform the CrowdBreaker. These will easily knock away any enemies that are threatening you and overtaking the breach.
    5. Keep up this strategy until the timer on top of the screen runs out. You'll get the "Battle of Helm's Deep" Achievement for completing the level.
