Walt Monegan

Walt Monegan served as the Commissioner of Public Safety of Anchorage, Alaska. He was fired in July of 2008, sparking rumors of inappropriate behavior by Alaska Governor and John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin. Palin Investigation

Following his termination, Walt Monegan stated that he had been pressured by Palin, her husband Todd Palin, and her office to fire police trooper Mike Wooten. Wooten was involved in a custody battle with Governor Palin's sister, Molly McCann. Monegan claimed that his refusal to dismiss Wooten was the reason he was fired. An independent investigation into the matter was launched in late July 2008. Palin turned over related documents to former state prosecutor Steve Branchflower.
