Following his termination, Walt Monegan stated that he had been pressured by Palin, her husband Todd Palin, and her office to fire police trooper Mike Wooten. Wooten was involved in a custody battle with Governor Palin's sister, Molly McCann. Monegan claimed that his refusal to dismiss Wooten was the reason he was fired.
