Walt Frazier

Walt Frazier is a retired player of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He began is trip to the pros by going to Southern Illinois University. Despite the small school status, Frazier made a name for himself and the school by winning the NIT (National Invitational Tournament) and winning by such a wide margin, controversy ensued regarding why Southern Illinois could not be in the more prestigious NCAA Tournament.

Frazier led the New York Knicks as starting point guard during his first ten seasons in the NBA, and helped them earn their only two championships in franchise history (1970, 1973). Despite his leadership as point guard on the offensive end, Frazier did not let up on the defensive end and came up with many timely steals that helped his career average of nearly two a game.

His quick hands became one of his trade marks; the brand of defense he played revolved around deception and timing. He mastered the art of appearing to let his guard down, and then when the offensive player took a breather he would swipe the ball and be on the other end of the court getting two points.

HIs playing days are highlighted by seven All Star Game appearances, two championship rings, being selected 4x as All NBA First Team (best players at each position), 7x as NBA Defensive Team (best defenders in the league), and holding the New York Knicks record for assists in a career (4,791).

With so much honor and respect given to the name Walt Frazier, he was an easy Hall Of Fame induction in 1987.

Today Frazier puts his voice and experience to use by providing commentary for the Knicks on the MSG Network (serves the mid-Atlantic United States) along with Mike Breen. He is also well known as a spokesman for the Just For Men hair product commercials. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/fraziwa01.html
