Wallis Simpson was a twice-divorced American socialite who married Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor to become the Duchess of Windsor in 1937. The Duke of Windsor was formerly known as King Edward VIII of England until his family's disapproval of his relationship with Simpson forced him to abdicate his throne in favor of his brother George VI of England in 1936.
