  • On April 14, 2008, Walmart named German retail veteran Stephan Fanderi as president of "Emerging Markets-East" to "explore retail business opportunities in Russia and neighboring markets". In October of 2007 CEO Lee Scott confirmed that Walmart was planning on expanding into Russia but did not provide a timeline. In January of 2008, UBS global financial company claimed that Walmart would expand into Russia within 24 months according to their research.
