Waitress (Film)

Waitress is a romantic comedy about Jenna, a pie baking waitress, and her struggle to extricate herself from an abusive marriage. The film was directed by the late Adrienne Shelly, who also appeared in the movie as the gawky waitress, Dawn. The film went on to debut at the Sundance Film Festival. It had a limited US release on May 2, 2007.

Adrienne Shelly was murdered on November 1, 2006, by a 19-year-old Ecuadorian illegal immigrant construction worker, Diego Pillco. At first her death was believed to be a suicide, but evidence found at the scene and confession from Pillco, proved otherwise. Shelly died never knowing her last movie, Waitress, debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
