The Waco Suspension Bridge was the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi when it was completed in 1870. The bridge became part of the Chisholm Trail that guided cattle drives and pioneers heading into the Western United States. The city of Waco commissioned artist Robert Summers to create a sculpture commemorating the Waco Suspension Bridge and the role it played in American’s westward expansion.
