• The Yeti, or "Abominable Snowman," is a legendary figure in Tibetan culture described as a large gorilla-like creature that walks upright and lives in arctic climates. Similar creatures have been reported in Canada (where it is called "Sasquatch"), Russia and Mongolia ("Almas"), and the United States ("Bigfoot"), but convincing evidence of the existence of such animals has long escaped the most dedicated of searchers.

• Footprints of the Yeti

  In 1951, a photograph of a mysterious footprint was taken by Eric Shipton, one of a team of mountaineers attempting to climb Mount Everest.
