For years Knight made frequent appearances on the NBC sitcom Seinfeld playing the role of the conniving letter carrier and Jerry Sienfeld's nemesis Newman. He also had a recurring role on the sitcom Third Rock from the Sun, appearing as police officer Don Orville, the love interest for Kristen Johnston's character, Sally Solomon.

    Many years before his breakout role as the cantankerous Newman, Wayne Knight was a regular cast member on a short-lived comedy sketch show on the Fox network called The Edge. Though it didn't last long, the series showcased off-the-wall humor (the style producer David Mirkin was known for) and performances by Julie Brown and Alan Ruck. Though Knight was one of the highlights of the show, it is most notable for introducing a fresh young actress named Jennifer Aniston to the world of TV.
