    Secret Service agents are assigned to protect specific individuals important to the United States government. These include:

    1. President and Vice President
    2. President-elect and Vice President-elect
    3. Former Presidents and their spouses (except when the spouse remarries)
    4. Certain candidates for the offices of President and Vice President (within 120 days of general election)
    5. Children and grandchildren of current and former presidents until age 16
    6. Visiting foreign heads of state and government and their spouses
    7. Any other individuals designated by President or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security
