Because of its location and despite its size, Tunisia has widely varying climates, with arid conditions in the south (where it juts slightly into the Sahara Desert, and temperate climates along the northern coast. Tunisia borders the Mediterranean Sea, with Algeria and Libya to the south.

Public discourse of political matters is virtually unheard of in Tunisia, making it difficult for foreign nations and foreign press to gain a clear understanding of their politics.
