- Ryan rushes Michael off to save time for Carly's segment. Which features the inevitable Total Eclipse of the Heart, although some of us thought Amanda would do it. This is just one of those Idol show horses, a ridiculously overblown song that allows singers to overdramatize like mad. Carly sounds a little ragged at times, not really blowing out some of the lines, but she makes up for that with a ludicrously showy ending. Not my favorite of hers. Or Randy's -- he didn't like the song choice or the big finish. Paula questions whether Randy can question the song choice, which is absurd, of course. Paula loved the stretch at the end and says she could do no wrong. Simon thought she was too tense and it didn't work right.
