Riding an enormous amount of hype from the UK press, New York City's The Strokes were the first stars of the garage rock revival of the early 2000s.

History
The Strokes began playing around New York in the late 90's. One of the clubs that the bands frequently played was Manhattan's Mercury Lounge. Ryan Gentles, a booking agent for the Mercury Lounge, quit his day job to focus full time on managing the band. In 2001, the band signed to RCA Records and released their debut album, Is This It. Two more albums followed, Room on Fire in 2003 and First Impressions of Earth in 2006.Other Projects
Guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. has released two albums, Yours to Keep in 2006 and Como Te Llama in 2008. Drummer Fabrizio Moretti formed the band Little Joy with Rodrigo Amarante and Binki Shapiro in 2007. Their self-titled debut was released on Rough Trade Records in 2008. Guitarist Nick Valensi contributed backing vocals on the album. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture released his debut solo album under the name Nickel Eye in 2009 and singer Julian Casablancas became a co-owner of a Korean BBQ restaurant named Shin. The restaurant is located in Los Angeles, California. Casablancas also contributed a song to the Lonely Island album.-
