• Martin Scorsese's The Departed follows a group of Boston cops and criminals who attempt to infiltrate each others' orgaizations. Leonardo DiCaprio plays officer William Costigan who earns the trust of Irish mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). Matt Damon plays Colin Sullivan, a police officer on Costello's payroll.

    The film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, Scorsese's first win in that category.

  • Music in The Departed

    Like many other films by Scorsese, pop and rock music are frequently played in the background. The opening sequence features The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter", the third of Scorsese's films to use this song (the others are Goodfellas and Casino.) "Let It Loose," also by the Stones, is played during the first meeting between Leonardo DiCaprio's and Jack Nicholson's characters.

    Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" is heard during the love sequence between DiCaprio and Vera Farmiga, as played by Roger Waters and Van Morrison.
