• Academy Award winning actor and film director Sydney Pollack died on Monday May 26, 2008 in his home in California.

    About nine months prior to his death, Pollack was diagnosed with cancer.

    Pollack and his wife Claire Griswold were married in 1958 and together they had three children, Steven, Rebecca, and Rachel.

    In 1993, their son Steven was killed in a plane crash.

    Sydney Pollack is also survived by his brother Benie Pollack and six grandchildren.
