Street Racing refers to the largely-illegal practice of racing cars on public roads. Though based around 1950's American hot rod culture, modern street racing culture comes largely from Japan and generally involves imported cars. Illegal street racing has been depicted in a variety of films and TV shows such as Rebel Without a Cause, American Graffiti and The Fast and the Furious, often portrayed as a teenage rite of passage.
