The ability to play against other players worldwide in
Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting XBLA is already an exciting idea to many gamers, but a special mode in the game serves to ratchet up the excitement another notch. In Quarters Mode, a players can "line up" to watch an ongoing match between two other players and challenge the winner; the winner of that match will play against the next watcher waiting in the line. It is intended to simulate a common arcade practice from the
1990s, when
Street Fighter arcade machines were at the height of their popularity and lines of eager players would regularly form around them, each placing down a quarter on the machine to indicate his or her place in line.
