  • Setting

The starship Voyager, whose mission has been largely scientific endeavors, has been dispatched to locate a missing ship from the rebel Maquis group. An encounter with an ancient alien sends them thousands of light-years away to an unexplored region of space called the Delta Quadrant, where the Maquis have also landed. Both ships are damaged, and both have lost crew members. The Maquis ship is destroyed, and both crews must work together on Voyager to make the long journey home, a trip expected to last 75 years. Along the way, several new aliens join the crew.
  • Cast and Crew Changes

Actress Genevieve Bujold was initially cast to play Captain Nicole Janeway. Producers rapidly realized that she did not fit well with the cast, and in the middle of filming the pilot, renamed the character and replaced the actress with Kate Mulgrew. Current Battlestar Galactica mastermind Ron Moore was co-executive producer for the first several episodes of the series, but left after significant creative differences with producer Brannon Braga.
