• The University of South Florida football team plays college football as a member of the Big East Conference. Known as the Bulls, the team plays their home games at the home of the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The team has yet to win a conference title, but has made great strides considering the program began in 1997. To date, they have played in three bowl games.

  The Bulls defeated the Florida State Seminoles 17-7 on September 26 to raise their record to 4-0, despite the loss of Matt Grothe for the season due to an injury suffered in the prior game.

• The New Kids on the Block

  The program began at the lower levels of college football in 1997, but the university had an eye on becoming a member of Division I-A. They began playing as an independent at the top level in 2001, then joined Conference USA in 2003, before being invited to join the Big East in 2005. Jim Leavitt has been the only coach the school has known to this point. Counting the selection of Mike Jenkins by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, ten USF players have been drafted by National Football League teams. Jenkins is the first player to be selected in the first round from the school. Other current NFL players from the school include Kawika Mitchell, J.R. Reed, Anthony Henry and Jeremy Burnett.
