• Soft Cell is a pop duo (vocalist Marc Almond and synth player David Ball) founded in Leeds, England. They scored a huge hit with their synth-pop version of the soul song "Tainted Love" in 1981. This was their only big success in America, although Soft Cell did continue to have hits in the United Kingdom. Almond and Ball called it quits in 1984, but reunited in 2001.
