Shilpa Shetty is a Bollywood actress who has appeared in approximately fifty Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films since her debut in 1993's Baazigar. Her first leading role was in the 1994 film Aag.
She appeared in the 2007 season of the UK's reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother, where charges of racism were brought against her fellow cast mates. This was followed by film comeback in 2007 with her appearances in Life in a... Metro and Apne.
In addition to modeling and acting, Shetty has associated herself with several non-profit organizations such as PETA and AIDS-awareness.
Shetty was arrested on September 2007 at Mumbai airport for breaking India's obscenity laws because of a controversial public kiss on the cheek from Richard Gere during an AIDS-awareness event on April 15, 2007.
