• English actor Roger Moore famously played secret agent James Bond in seven films and Simon Templar in British television series The Saint. He has been a UNICEF ambassador since 1991.

  Moore began his career as a male model and made his first film and television appearances in the 1950s. In 1961, Moore was cast as Simon Templar in a television adaptation of Leslie Charteris' Saint novels. The show made Moore a household name in the UK and the United States.

  Moore made his first Bond film, Live and Let Die, in 1973. He is the longest-running Bond actor, having appeared in seven films from 1973 to 1985.

  After retiring from the Bond role, Moore continued to appear in various film and television projects. His primary public role, however, has been a humanitarian one as an ambassador for UNICEF.

• Criticism of Bond films

  Following the British debut of the 2008 Bond film Quantum of Solace, starring Daniel Craig as the infamous spy, Moore gave an interview with Reuters in which he complained about the level of violence in some of the entries in the film series.
