American actor River Phoenix was cast for roles such as Stand by Me, The Mosquito Coast and My Own Private Idaho. He was nominated for an Academy Award at the age of 18 for his performance in Running on Empty and received critics favor as well. His last film Dark Blood in 1993 was never released as it was three weeks away from completion at the time of his death.

His Death
River was found outside the Viper Room, a Hollywood nightclub on the sidewalk having convulsions, allegedly after partaking in a lethal dose of heroin and cocaine, known as a speedball. His brother Joaquin dialed 911, and family friend Samantha Mathis and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea were on hand to help, but to no avail, as the young star died from a drug-induced heart failure. He was pronounced dead at 1:51am on October 31, 1993 at 23 years old.-
