• One of the smallest of the toy breeds, the Pomeranian is a spunky, fluffy dog characterized by its triangular fox-like face and double-layered coat.

The Pomeranian, often "Pom" for short, comes in a variety of colors, the most common of which are white, red and orange. The Pom's plumed tail lies flat along its back.

Pomeranians make loyal and energetic companions that have been known to attack much larger dogs to protect their loved ones.

Pomeranians originated from the Nordic Spitz family, which is characterized by hunters and herders designed to withstand harsh winter climates. Descended from wolves, Spitz dogs were used as sled dogs and imported to southern Europe for use as sheep herders.

The Pom takes its name from Pomerania, a region that borders the Baltic Sea now shared by Germany and Poland.
