Plastic Surgery is an optional procedure to reshape or change the appearance of ones body or face. Reconstructive plastic surgery is used to correct defects on the face or body. These can include birth defects or defects caused by injury or accidents. Cosmetic plastic surgery is done when a person is not happy with a part of their body such as breasts, noses, eyelids and faces.
Reconstructive plastic surgery is normally preformed to improve function. This type of surgery is commonly used in cases such as cleft-lip, palate deformities and web fingers, that stem from birth defects. Reconstructive plastic surgery is also used on burn wounds and abnormal growths.
Cosmetic plastic surgery has developed over the years to be less invasive with the use of lasers, where in the past it required full surgical procedures. Most cosmetic procedures are preformed on an outpatient basis using a local or general anesthesia. Most patients can continue with their regular activities within one to two weeks.
