OpenID is a system designed to provide internet users with the option of employing a single sign-on system. OpenID provides access control that enables users to authenticate sessions on multiple websites, by utilizing a single identifier. While this decentralized system has the benefit of allowing users to use just one username/password to access sites that support OpenID, its critics continue to raise security concerns.Official Site: What is OpenID? Criticism
Critics of OpenID say that phishing scams are made easier by allowing the criminals to replicate a page asking for an OpenID, which can then be used on multiple OpenID sites. In addition, OpenID does not require any Transport Layer Security or website security authorization.Computing: OpenID still open to abuse (March 5, 2007)Quotes
"Nobody should own this. Nobody’s planning on making any money from this. The goal is to release every part of this under the most liberal licenses possible, so there’s no money or licensing or registering required to play. It benefits the community as a whole if something like this exists, and we’re all a part of the community." - Brad FitzpatrickOfficial Site: What is OpenID?Categories
