• The University of North Carolina football team plays college football as a member of the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Known as the Tar Heels, the team plays their home games at Kenan Stadium on campus in Chapel Hill. The team has won eight conference championships, the most recent in 1980, but has never won a national championship.

• Carolina Blue

  Though the men's basketball program has a much higher profile, the football team still has had some impressive and talented players come through their program. Perhaps the most recognizable is that of Pro Football Hall of Fame member Lawrence Taylor. Another defensive superstar, Julius Peppers also played for the Tar Heels. Additional former North Carolina players include George Barclay, Natrone Means, Jeff Saturday, Alge Crumpler, Greg Ellis, Ronald Curry, Don McCauley, Willie Parker, Harris Barton, Tommy Barnhardt, Dre Bly and Kelvin Bryant.
