Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell currently serves as the Republican Minority Leader. Preceded by Walter Huddleston, McConnell has been a Senator since 1985. Before a career in politics, McConnell was a judge in Alabama.
In February 2009, Senator McConnell proposed a plan to offer fixed, government-backed, low-interest mortgages of 4% to "any credit-worthy borrower." According to McConnell, President Barack Obama's stimulus package does not fit what he says is the "main problem first and that's housing." McConnell said he wants to amend Obama's stimulus package to include his plan.FOX News: McConnell Proposes Cheap, Government-Backed Mortgages... (February 2, 2009)
